A few days ago I found myself in an office with the most magnificent roof-top views across to the castle, where the stands are being erected for this year’s Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I love seeing the ‘ribs’ of the stands emerging and then disappearing as more of the structure gets built.
Edinburgh is a city to look up in. Around every corner, there is something interesting to see on the corner or top of a building. Here are some examples…
And here, because I could not resist it, is another shot of the castle – I love the juxtaposition of the ancient fortress with the modern buildings at its foot. It is one of the many things that makes this such a wonderful city. 🙂
A room with a view!!! And what a view it is – thank you!!!

I love all those turrets! It seems almost out of character for a Scottish city to be so exotic, but I expect it is the French connection that brings out the romantic element in the architecture.

There is definitely a French feeling here – or perhaps we might say that France is like us!!

I absolutely agree with Clare, there is a pervasive, and very attractive, French influence on Scottish architecture. The Auld Alliance! Edinburgh is a kind of fantasy city, so much more attractive since its gems were designed individually and over many centuries.

Completely agree! The higgldy piggldy way in which the city has evolved gives it real character.
